Best kept: Refrigerator

Pantry

1 week

Fridge

3–4 weeks

Freezer

Juice/zest: up to 6 months

How to store it

  • Store whole citrus in a sealed bag in the crisper drawer to slow moisture loss.
  • Keep cut halves wrapped tightly, cut-side down.
  • Freeze juice in ice-cube trays and zest in a small container.

Signs it has gone bad

  • Soft, squishy spots
  • Mold (often white then green)
  • Shriveled, hard skin
  • Fermented smell

Pro tips

  • Roll a lemon on the counter before juicing to get more juice.
  • Freeze zest before juicing — you can't zest a squeezed lemon.

Never waste lemons & limes again
