How to Store Apples
Apples last for weeks in the crisper drawer.
Best kept: Refrigerator (crisper drawer)
Pantry
1 week
Fridge
4–6 weeks
Freezer
Up to 1 year (sliced)
How to store it
- •Store apples in the crisper drawer, ideally in a perforated bag.
- •Keep them away from other fruits and vegetables — apples give off ethylene gas that ripens (and spoils) nearby produce.
- •Remove any bruised apples; 'one bad apple' really does spoil the bunch.
Signs it has gone bad
- •Soft, wrinkled skin
- •Brown mushy spots
- •Mealy texture
- •Mold
Pro tips
- •Toss apple slices in lemon water to stop browning.
- •A single apple can ripen hard avocados faster.
